EGYPT INCREASE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TO JORDAN

Egypt increase gas supply to Jordan for electricity generation to 350m cubic feet per day.

Egypt has increased its gas supply to Jordan to help generate more electricity. The daily supply to Jordan have been increased from the normal 100 m cubic feet per day to 350 m cubic feet per day.

According to the Egyptian Minister for Petroleum, Tarek El Molla, Egypt exports changeable amounts of natural gas to Jordan. He also said it is based on the need of their electricity station.

The both nation signed a deal back in 2004 that Egypt will export 250 m cubic feet per day to Jordan for 15 years at US$ 2.5 per Million BTU. However, Egypt government increased gas price to US$ 5 per Million BTU in 2012. The Agreement also stipulates that Egypt will supply to Jordan 10% of its electricity needs.

Meanwhile, since September 2018, Egypt and Jordan partnership has turn the nation into a regional energy centre. They have done this through the pipeline connecting both nation. This has made them achieve self-sufficiency in the energy sector.

Tarek El Molla said he is constantly in communication with their counterpart Hallah Zawaty to establish more strategics. This will help them to provide as well as diversify the source of energy. He also said the Ministry is intensifying its effort in cooperation with foreign partners in order to implement gas exploration development project.
